Are contact lenses the best correction for sport?

In most cases, the simple answer is yes, but there may be some arguments with regards to water sports.

The advantages of using daily contact lenses over glasses when playing sport are evidently beneficial. If you're a glasses wearer, you will know that this can prove tricky when it comes to playing sports. Running around on a pitch or court while wearing glasses could lead to several problems, such as them falling off, becoming scratched or even broken.

It is recommended, therefore, to not wear glasses when playing sports and to wear disposable contact lenses instead to enhance sporting performance. These are a safer and much more practical option compared to glasses, giving you the freedom to focus on your sport at the same time.

But what are the other benefits of wearing contact lenses when playing sports? Read on to discover more why daily disposable lenses are a great choice for sport:

Wider field view

It goes without saying that you need clear view of the field or court when playing sports. Therefore, you should steer clear of anything that restricts your vision. The lenses and frames of glasses, for example, could obstruct your view of the far side of the pitch. Contact lenses, on the other hand, offer a wider field view without any limitations.

Less susceptible to dirt

When running around a grassy field, it's likely that you'll kick up dirt and mud along the way. This means that your knees and clothes are bound to get dirty; but if you're wearing glasses, your lenses will also be susceptible to flying bits of dust and dirt.

Glasses lenses full of smears and smudges will blur your vision and affect your performance on the pitch. Contact lenses are less prone to dirt and so are a much better option, especially when playing field sports.

Can be worn with headgear

If the sport you're playing requires a full head helmet, this can pose a problem if you wear glasses. It's unlikely your helmet will fit over your face when you have glasses on. What's more, the helmet could snap or damage your frames.

This is where contact lenses have an advantage. Simply pop them in with clean hands and place your helmet over your head hassle-free.

Not affected by weather conditions

Come rain or shine you may enjoy an outdoor run or be required to play a sports match outdoors. If it's particularly windy or raining, glasses can steam up and become foggy. This leaves condensation on the lenses that can affect your playing performance.

Since contact lenses are not as exposed to environmental conditions, you can wear them comfortably no matter the weather.
