2 Weekly Contact Lenses
Medically reviewed by Sharon Copeland on 12 October 2021
2 weekly contact lenses are lenses worn during waking hours and taken out, cleaned and stored in a contact lens case before going to sleep. You can wear these lenses for up to two weeks before replacing them with a fresh pair.
What are weekly contact lenses?
Two weekly contact lenses, (also known as ‘bi-weekly contact lenses’) have been designed to be worn for as long as two weeks. This wearing schedule requires nightly cleaning and storing using contact lens solution. For those that want to replace their multiple wear lenses more frequently, two weekly lenses allow for a fresher lens. Some 2 weekly lenses such as Acuvue Oasys, can also be worn as extended wear lenses for up to 6 nights and 7 days, if approved by your optician. If worn as extended wear lenses, they must be replaced once a week with a fresh pair.
What vision problems do 2 weekly contact lenses correct?
There are three different types of two weekly lenses available from Acuvue. These are Acuvue Oasys which have been designed to correct short sightedness (myopia) and long sightedness (hyperopia), Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism and Acuvue Oasys Multifocal.
Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism feature a very high cylinder range of -2.75 and are an excellent choice for those who want a more hygienic lens wear option than monthlies but are unable to get dailies in a high prescription.
Acuvue Oasys multifocal can correct presbyopia and are a great choice if you’re presbyopic. They use the same material as Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism and therefore have the same benefits.

What are the best weekly contact lenses?
Some of the most popular 2 weekly contact lenses include Acuvue Oasys 2 week disposable contacts. These contact lenses are made from a highly breathable silicone hydrogel material which prevents the eyes from drying out. This is perfect for those who spend long hours in front of digital screens, or anyone who suffers from persistent dry eyes. Acuvue Oasys lenses are amongst the best two weekly contact lenses as they allow more oxygen to reach the eye than standard hydrogel lenses. They are an excellent alternative to Acuvue Advance which has now been discontinued.
Acuvue 2 week contact lenses are made with a soft hydrogel material and 58% water content. You can be sure to enjoy comfort, clarity and a highly moisturised and fresh lens for two weeks.
Why should I choose weekly contact lenses?
Comfort – most weekly contact lenses are either made from silicone hydrogel or other hydrogel materials, meaning that your eyes will be getting plenty of oxygen, moisture and feel hydrated throughout the day.
Value – weekly lenses typically prove to be cheaper than buying daily disposables. As you’ll simply be buying fewer lenses, you’ll be spending less money.
Hygiene – with weekly contact lenses, you’ll be replacing your lenses more frequently than you would with monthlies, reducing the number of days you wear the same pair of contacts.
Versatility – some weekly contact lenses can be worn as extended wear contact lenses allowing for you to wear them day and night for up to a week, after which you’ll need to replace them. This means that, if approved by your optician, you have the choice whether to wear your lenses continuously or to follow the relevant cleaning routine.
What happens to contacts after 2 weeks?
After 2 weeks of wearing 2 week contact lenses, the oxygen transmissibility drops to levels considered unhealthy which can increase the likelihood of an eye infection and inflammation. Always throw the lenses away after wearing them for two weeks.
Can I wear contact lenses longer than 2 weeks?
2 week contact lenses should not be worn for longer than 2 weeks. You can wear other contact lenses called monthlies which have been designed to be worn longer than 2 weeks so long as they have been fitted by an optician.
How long can I wear my contacts each day?
You should listen to your optician’s advice regarding how long you can wear your contacts each day. Most contact lenses can be worn for up to 14-16 hours a day or more, only if comfortable. However, we would always recommend removing lenses a good hour or two before bed and switch to wearing glasses if need be. If you are fitted for extended wear contact lenses then Acuvue Oasys lenses can be worn for 6 nights and 7 days so long as they are replaced with a fresh pair after this period.
Are 2 weekly contact lenses for 2 weeks or 14 wears?
2 weekly contact lenses are designed to be worn for 14 wears before being disposed of. They must be cleaned and stored in contact lens solution each night after a day’s wear.
