Vison types

What are single vision lenses?

Single vision lenses are designed to correct your vision if you struggle to see things that are far away (distance when driving/reading a board ect) that are nearer (reading/writing ) or at an arm's length (computer or anything in your intermediate vision).

Single vision lenses are typically used to correct short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism, and has one power across the lens.

What are bifocal lenses?

Bifocal lenses contain two different prescriptions within the lens and are designed to help you see objects both near and far away from you.

You will notice a visible line on the lens in these glasses, this is because there is a separation between the distant and reading sections of the glasses.

The upper portion of the lens is used for seeing into the distance, as you naturally look up and around you. When reading something close, you generally tend to look downward, hence, the lower part is used for reading/ doing tasks up close to you.

What are varifocal lenses?

Varifocal lenses offer a smooth line of vision for objects near, far and everything in-between. Long-distance vision is aided through the top portion of the lens, the intermediate distance through the middle and objects closest through the bottom. Varifocal lenses offer a very wide field of vision and smooth visual transition and are best for people who require a switch between distances throughout the day.

What is an aspheric lens?

aspheric lens?

An aspheric lens for glasses is flatter and thinner in design. Standard lenses have a spherical front surface, which means they have the same curvature across the entire lens (i.e. football/tennis ball). With an aspheric lens, the curvature will change gradually from the centre to the edge of the lenses. These lenses are recommended especially for high or strong prescriptions and suitable for myopia (short-sightedness) and hyperopia (long-sightedness). Aspheric lenses are generally more expensive because of its premium lens design and added benefits, making them a great investment.

Made with “high-index lens” materials, they produce a slimmer profile that is also lighter than standard lenses and due to its flatter curvature, aspheric lenses will be closer to your eyes. Glasses wearers will have a more natural look and view, as unwanted magnification and minification will be reduced. This is because standard lenses for myopia will make objects look smaller and the wearer’s eyes will appear small. Whilst, standard lenses for hyperopia will make things look larger and closer than they are in fact. As a result, the wearer’s eyes will appear bigger. Being light in weight, aspheric lenses are also more comfortable and easier to wear, not to mention more cosmetically appealing.

Lens Coatings Explained

Scratch Resistant Coating

Scratch resistant coating helps to mitigate scratching from everyday glasses use. The extra coating will reduce the impact and appearance of scratches, but it is important that you keep your lenses in a hard case to prevent any hard damage. The extra coating has a harder surface, plus please note that no coating is 100% scratch proof.

Anti-Glare Lenses

Anti-Glare Lenses

Anti-glare lenses are built with and provide enhanced visual clarity by transmitting 99.9% of light to the eye. This is crucial for thinner lenses as they tend to reflect more light, all thinner (hi-index) lenses come with it and it is particularly useful for night driving

The lens reduces reflections from its front and rear surface of the lenses, as such, you will notice that anti-glare lenses do not have a harsh shine. By doing so they improve the aesthetics of the lens. In addition, they help to prevent eye strain for those who spend a significant amount of time in front of screens.

Hydrophobic Coating

Hydrophobic Coating

Hydrophobic coating resists water droplets from resting on your lenses. Any water encountering the lens surface is better handled and repelled because of the coating. They are also anti-static and keep away any dust or dirt particles from your lenses. They generally are easier to clean compared to standard lenses without a hydrophobic coating, as the design repels stains and grease from our fingers. This means your lenses will require less maintenance, making it a convenient option and ideal for those with active lifestyles.

Blue Light Lenses

Blue Light Lenses

Blue light coating is highly recommended for anyone who spends a significantly long time in front of digital devices. This means computer screens, smartphones, tablets and even the television. Modern life means we're continuously in front of screens.

Blue Light coating significantly reduces the levels of blue light being emitted to your eyes, by reflecting a percentage of the High Energy Visible (HEV) light that is emitted by artificial light from the screens of digital devices. This result is less eye strain/eye fatigue, better contrast and improved visual comfort

Transitions Lenses

Transitions Lenses

Transitions® is a popular brand for photochromic lenses. Transition lenses automatically change from clear to dark when put into contact with UV rays. They also help to reduce HEV blue light emitted by the sun and electronic devices and screens. Transition lenses are available in grey and brown lenses.

Polarised Lenses

Polarised Lenses

Polarised lenses work by reducing glare from the light reflected off of surfaces. Glare can be a nuisance and, in some instances, dangerous when you're doing an activity, temporarily obstructing your vision and causing you to strain or squint your eyes. Polarised lenses have a filter integrated that blocks horizontal glare

They reduce eye strain and deepen contrast, creating a better perception of colour, as well as offering 100% to UVA and UVB protection.

Lens Tints

Gradient Lenses

Gradient Lenses

Gradient lenses are sunglasses that feature a colour transition, from the top to the bottom of the lens. They offer 100% UV protection from the sun, without dimming out the entire eye line of the wearer. Gradient lenses upper tint offers protection as you look upwards but allow for more light to pass through the lens at the bottom. This is particularly useful if you're driving and need to see your dashboard or you're walking through an area where the ground is uneven.

Solid Tint Lenses

Solid Lenses

A solid tint allows for slight vision enhancement and added protection against the suns UV rays. Which tint you choose depends mostly on your personal needs and personal preference.

Solid tints are recommended for very bright light conditions. Our tints are classified as dark solid tints which are available in the following colours: grey and brown (Filter category 3 – 85% light absorption).

They all offer 100% UVA/UVB protection. Grey tints are the most popular tints as they reduce brightness and colour distortion. Brown tints enhance both contrast and depth perception (i.e. driving and golf). So why not convert your prescription glasses to prescription sunglasses?
