Biofinity vs PureVision 2

Biofinity and PureVision 2 are both monthly silicone hydrogel contact lenses. Biofinity have a higher oxygen permeability than PureVision 2. Both these contact lenses are designed for daily wear but can be worn as continuous wear lenses, if approved by your optician.

How does Biofinity compare to PureVision 2?
Biofinity and PureVision 2 are both extended wear lenses that can be worn for up to 29 nights continuously, allowing you to sleep in these lenses, although you will first need approval from your optician before sleeping in these lenses.
They both feature different technologies which work to keep the eyes healthy and hydrated. PureVision 2 feature High Definition Optics to reduce halos and glare whereas Biofinity utilises Digital Zone Optics, providing precise and sharp focus, especially when moving the eye on and off digital screens.
What are lenses come in the range?
You can get Biofinity Toric for astigmatism and Biofinity Multifocal for presbyopia, as well as PureVision2 for Astigmatism and PureVision2 for Presbyopia. However, unlike PureVision 2, Biofinity features extended ranges called Biofinity XR and Biofinity XR Toric, which caters for more extreme prescriptions.
Both brands of lenses are specifically designed for contact lens wearers who spend a significant amount of time in front of digital screens, as they help minimise dryness in the eye and maintain moisture all day long. Biofinity also has a brand of lenses especially made for digital screen use, which is Biofinity Energys.
Which is better Biofinity or PureVision 2?
When considering which lens is better Biofinity or PureVision 2, you’ll find that both lenses offer outstanding benefits and features.
Nevertheless, on comparison, Biofinity caters for a wider range of prescriptions and features a higher water content and oxygen permeability. They are also more affordable than PureVision 2. However, PureVision 2 can be worn for a longer period of time as extended wear lenses (if approved by your optician) making it a more desirable choice for those who are constantly on the go.
