New Year’s resolutions give us the perfect opportunity to press the reset button and look towards a brighter year ahead. A fresh start is always a great thing to look forward to, but even more so after having a year such as 2020.

Whilst we are bound to adopt many unhealthy habits during Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, small and simple steps can be taken to get back on track. Here at Feel Good Contacts, we thought we’d introduce you to some New Year’s Resolution ideas for healthy eyes.

The Digital Detox

The digital detox will be an even bigger trend in 2021. As the coronavirus pandemic has caused most of us to increase our screen time. Cutting down tech time will not only leave you with plenty of time to focus on your other goals, but it will also do wonders for your eyes, reducing dry eyes, tired eyes, computer vision and redness. You can reduce screen time by:

Cutting out the use of screens at the dinner table

Whether you find yourself watching TV or looking at your phone, eliminating screens at dinner time will prevent eye strain. You can always catch up with social media afterwards. You’re also more likely to have wonderful conversations with your friends and family instead.

Reading a book in bed

It’s a known fact that the blue light emitted from smartphones can reduce your melatonin levels and in turn, interrupt your sleep cycle. Therefore, swapping your phone for a book before bed will help you get a good night’s sleep and prevent you from getting tired eyes.

Taking regular breaks from your screen

Whilst we recognise that many of us depend on looking at a screen for our jobs, you can improve your eye health and reduce the chances of getting computer vision syndrome by following the 20-20-20 rule. This involves taking a break from the screen every 20 minutes and looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Eat a healthy diet

Most of us tend to eat chocolate and other delicious foods more at Christmas.
