Does sweat damage contact lenses?

Sweating while running is inevitable. However, this can cause a stinging sensation in the eyes while wearing lenses. Consider wearing soft contact lenses like comfi Daily Disposables that prevent sweat from getting into the eyes and causing irritation and discomfort.

2. Avoid getting your contact lenses wet

Whether you’re participating in a marathon or triathlon or simply taking a warm bath/shower, it's important to avoid getting your lenses wet. Water contains harmful organisms that can cause serious eye infections and even lead to vision loss in serious cases.

3. Wash your hands before putting in lenses

Always wash your hands with soap and water. Dry them thoroughly before inserting and removing your lenses. Do not use oily or scented soaps while washing your hands. The residue can transfer to your lenses and cause irritation to your eyes.

4. Stay hydrated

Drink more water: I mean, who hasn't heard this before? Proper hydration is essential for optimal eye health. Ensure you drink enough water throughout the day, as dehydration can lead to dry eyes, which can cause discomfort while wearing lenses.

6. Don’t rub your eyes

Rubbing and touching your eyes while exercising is common – you don’t even realise you’re doing it! Avoid rubbing your eyes as much as possible, as this can cause small scratches on the eye, increasing the risk of an eye infection or irritation. Touching your eyes or lenses while running could transfer bacteria onto your lenses and increase the risk of irritation or eye infection.

Running with contact lenses can be completely safe if you take good care of your eyes and follow the advice given by your optician.
