The Perseid meteor shower will be visible in the sky this weekend, make sure you look out for it!

While you might have seen it earlier this week, the Perseid meteor shower will be looking at its very best tonight and this coming weekend. As a retailer of eye care products, Feel Good Contact Lenses can, of course, appreciate the visual wonders that our eyes experience. So we’d feel remiss in our duty if we didn’t remind you about the meteor shower and offer a few tips to help you see it in the very best way possible.

What Are the Perseids?

Originating from the Swift-Tuttle comet, the Perseids are tiny tiny pieces of the comet that are seen by us on Earth as our planet orbits through a field of debris. In fact, one of the meteors can even be as small as a single grain of sand.

Did you know? Because they are found in the constellation Perseus, we call them the ‘Perseids’.

When Can We See Them?

They have been visible in the sky since mid-July, however the 11th-12th August is the peak for the shower. You’ll be able to track the meteors best during the pre-dawn hours.

Once they hit the Earth’s atmosphere, they travel at around 134,000 mph. Having said that though, you shouldn’t worry… the Perseids pose no actual threat to life on Earth.

How to Watch the Show?

First off, it might go without saying, but – if you’re a contact lens wearer, make sure you have your contacts in.

As for venue, we recommend the great outdoors. There’s no better place to see the shower in the sky than someplace where you can see all of the sky. Buildings and trees are likely to obscure your vision, so make sure you find a big open space to sit back and enjoy the visuals.

From the whole team at Feel Good Contact Lenses, we hope you enjoy watching the Perseid meteor shower, and that you can see the show clearly!
