Types of Contact Lenses
What are monthly contact lenses?
Monthly contact lenses are also known as “monthlies” and can be worn for up to 30 days provided they are kept in solution overnight and cleaned each day.
These contact lenses are a durable option for vision correction, which must be cared for properly if they are to function the full length of their monthly wear lifespan. Monthly disposable contact lenses should be cleaned and stored after each use with fresh contact lens cleaning solution, to avoid the build-up of proteins and bacteria.
At Feel Good Contacts, we stock top selling brands from leading manufacturers Johnson & Johnson, Alcon (formerly Ciba Vision), CooperVision and Bausch & Lomb. We have a wide range of monthly contact lenses available in all types of prescriptions to cater for short-sightedness, long-sightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism, as well as coloured lenses for cosmetic use. Our most popular monthly contact lenses include comfi Air, Air Optix Aqua, Biofinity, Avaira Vitality, Clariti Elite and FreshLook Colorblends.
What are the advantages of monthly contact lenses?
Our high-quality soft contact lenses offer the best value for money for regular contact lens wearers. Ideal for the eco-conscious consumer, they offer minimal waste by using the same set for a month. Often, monthly contact lenses are available in a wider selection of prescriptions and can be tailored to any specific prescription, this is especially useful for individuals who need a toric or multifocal prescription.
For those who wear their lenses on a daily basis, monthly contact lenses are more practical for your visual requirements than glasses. They are ideal for those that are always on the move, active with sports or out of the house the entire day.
Some monthly contact lenses can be worn for up to 7 days continuously, without taking them out. These are called extended wear contact lenses and, if approved by your optician, can be the perfect option for you and your eyes, especially if you like the freedom of being able to sleep in your lenses. Some extended wear lenses in our range include Biofinity and Air Optix Night and Day Aqua contact lenses.
In addition, silicone hydrogel monthly contact lenses promote exceptional eye health and can deliver a more comfortable lens wearing experience. The silicone hydrogel material allows more oxygen into your eyes, keeping them moist throughout the day. Our best-selling monthly silicone hydrogel lenses include Air Optix Aqua, Biofinity and PureVision2.
How to use monthly contact lenses?
Monthly disposable contact lenses will need to be removed every night before bed (unless you’re wearing prescribed extended wear lenses). They must then be cleaned and stored in solution overnight.
We stock a wide selection of contact lens solutions, which can be ordered alongside your monthly wear contact lenses. You can opt for separate hydrogen peroxide and saline solutions for cleaning and storing,. Alternatively, you could use multi-purpose solutions. It’s important to remember that saline solutions are not sufficient enough to clean and disinfect your lenses – you must use a hydrogen peroxide solution for this. Saline solutions can be used to neutralise and rinse your lenses. You should not store your lenses in solutions that haven’t been approved for contact lens use and you should never store your lenses in water.

Are monthly contact lenses safe?
Monthly contact lenses are safe to wear, provided they are taken care of properly. Always talk to your optician before trying a new contact lens so you can be prescribed a lens that maintains the best eye health and clear vision.
If not looked after and cleaned properly, there is a chance you could cause damage to your eyes, so it is important to know how to use and take care of your monthly contact lenses.
Can I wear my monthly contact lenses when I sleep?
Unless approved by your optician, you should not sleep in your contact lenses. Sleeping in your contact lenses can increase the risk of infection, so it’s important to wear them only as often as your optician has prescribed. If you’ve been given approval to sleep in your lenses, you can only do this using extended wear contact lenses, specially designed for overnight or continuous wear.
